The Albanian Football Association and Terre des hommes Albania sign a cooperation agreement for the protection and safety of children in football

On 9 February 2023, the Albanian Football Association (AFA) and Terre des hommes Albania (Tdh) signed a cooperation agreement in the field of child protection in football, in line with UEFA's initiative to develop national child protection policies for each of its 55 members. The agreement comes as a continuation of the previous collaboration to improve the quality of child protection in football, including Tdh's contribution to the drafting of two important documents of the AFA: the child protection policy in football and the code of ethics.

The Gibraltar FA: Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility

The Gibraltar Football Association, in collaboration with the English Football Association, has produced a series of documents to assist all its stakeholders in developing safeguarding policies, sending the clear message that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility! The Child safeguarding toolkit for UEFA member associations served as guidance in this process.

Template: Behaviour code for children [UEFA]

This sample children’s behaviour code for away trips and other activities is intended to be a guide. Ideally, children should also be consulted about what is acceptable behaviour, as they are more likely to follow the rules if they have taken part in creating them. This code can be adapted to overnight or daytime-only trips.

The template is part of the Child safeguarding toolkit for UEFA member associations

Codes of conduct are important as they set out expected behaviours. They are more than a list of what can and cannot be done; they are a shared set of agreed and acceptable behaviours that help to create and maintain a positive, fun and safe environment
for children.

This sample code of conduct is provided as a suggestion. Clubs and organisations can include other issues that they believe are important given their context.

Standards for safeguarding and protecting children in sport [NSPCC]

These Standards provide a framework for all those involved in sport to help them create a safe sporting environment for children and young people and protect them from harm.

The Standards for safeguarding and protecting children in sport (PDF) also seek to provide a benchmark to help those involved in sport make informed decisions, and to promote good practice and challenge poor practice.

The Council of Europe's code of conduct and ethics in Sport

The Council of Europe has put together guidance and examples of Code of Conduct in sports.

"Guiding principle

One of the most popular instruments to protect children’s safety in sport is the code of conduct for all people involved in sport.

Indeed, many of the available normative frameworks mention this instrument as a suitable tool in the prevention of sexual violence in sport. Promoting ethical guidelines, a code of conduct, ethical leadership or an acceptable standard of behavior is recommended in all documents.

International Charter of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport [UNESCO]

The International Charter of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport  is a rights-based reference that orients and supports policy- and decision-making in sport.

Adopted in 1978, the original Charter was perceived as innovative at the time - as it was the first rights-based document to state that “the practice of physical education and sport is a fundamental right for all”.
