The first Child Safeguarding Standards were launched over 12 years ago by a coalition of relief and development charities that later became known as Keeping Children Safe.
Since then there has been a growing recognition that, as well as risks to children from staff and associates, inappropriately designed programmes and poor operational management can also create the possibility of risks to children.
An expert group (XG) on Good Governance was set up in 2015 to produce recommendations on this key topic. The XG held its first meeting on 16 October 20214 and began its work on the protection of minors deliverable on 23 February 2016, followed by further discussions on 12 May and 14 July.

Sport Respects Your Rights is a project based at Edge Hill University aimed at promoting awareness around sexual violence, abuse and exploitation in sport. Project owners want to help reduce the stigma around sexual abuse, and promote safe sports to young people.
The Council of Europe Standing Committee on Spectator Violence (the standing committee) believes that a multi-year policy strategy is needed to set out a coherent roadmap for the mid-term.
The standing committee decided to assess the implementation of its policy strategy (2014-2016), in particular by identifying the goals that were reached, those that were not, and what needs to be improved. By publishing the result of this analysis, the committee wishes:
The International Charter of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport is a rights-based reference that orients and supports policy- and decision-making in sport.
Adopted in 1978, the original Charter was perceived as innovative at the time - as it was the first rights-based document to state that “the practice of physical education and sport is a fundamental right for all”.

Abstract
Sexual violence against children in sports receives little research attention. The aim of this Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-based systematic literature review was to synthesize the up-to-date knowledge and identify the already known and the still unknown information in this area. The literature search yielded seven eligible studies for inclusion.
