In the fight to protect children from sexual abuse, authorities and sports organisations are becoming more aware of the need to put necessary measures in place to provide a safe environment for young athletes.
This is the fifth webinar in a series organised in the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe joint project "Child Safeguarding in Sport (CSiS)".
The webinar was presented by German Sports Youth (German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB)). It took place on Thursday, 4 February 2021, from 10.00 to 12.00 CET. Watch the recording of the webinar below.
All athletes have a right to engage in safe sport, defined as an athletic environment that is respectful, equitable and free from all forms of abuse. Nevertheless for some athletes, sport brings disturbing experiences of psychological, physical and sexual abuse.
Sexual abuse happens in sport too. It is hard for children to talk. Video clip to call public authorities and the sport movement to give children a voice and stop child sexual abuse in sport. "Start to talk” is a Council of Europe call for action to public authorities and the sport movement to stop child sexual abuse. By joining this call, governments, sport clubs, associations and federations, as well as athletes and coaches, pledge to take concrete measures to prevent and respond to abuse.
